Sorry to say, but I think the fail is a fail. I think it is only "preliminary" while they make sure there weren't any testing irregularities, etc. If all testing procedures were done correctly, then the preliminary score stands, as far as I know. Since you tossed the paper that had the preliminary result on it, know that it takes 1-3 weeks for the official result to post. If it's been longer than three weeks you are supposed to contact PTCB. When I looked into it, PTCB said that they’d change in the event of cheating, failure to abide by policies, irregularities, stuff like that.
