I've been getting the propulsion reduced messages five times over the last two months. It only happens when the battery is exhausted and I've been driving on gas for a while. Stop and put it in Mountain Mode for 5-10 minutes and this should resolve the issue. I would also recommend that you stay in mountain mode the remainder of your trip. Mar 2, 2021 · Volt batteries have been incredibly reliable since the first Volts rolled off the line in 2011. I'm not in the slightest concerned about it, and this recall doesn't change that at all. The reprogramming is an adjustment that helps the car manage batteries as they age, not a sign that the Volt batteries are going bad in an unexpected way. Engine not available just means the engine stalled for whatever reason. It could be a sensor, it could be bad gas, it could be catastrophic failure. In any other car, you'd be dead on the street at that point and have to try to restart. But in a volt, you get to keep driving safely off the road. Definitely a fan of that.
