The calamity devs basically had to make two classes, what with the non existence of summoner in vanilla. while melee tends to suck early game, late game it's very satisfying, ranger is probably best from beginning-end, because most other classes struggle early game.

Every class has different things that they do very well Mage is very aoe heavy and glass cannon like but has some good lifesteal early on even though lifesteal is nerfed in calamity.
