If I was building a 406 I would step up to the SHP PRO block for an extra 300.00 you get 4 bolt billet caps from front to rear BBC cam tunnel and with a set of the Scat procomp rods with the 7/16 bolt or the callies rods, oliver, lunati pro mod, crower ETC. have enough cam clearance on a roller cam with a 1.140 base circle cam.It'll work, but a 600 or 650 will be able to do the job just as good, if not better then the 750. If you have a 350 or 383 that is used for street and strip, and it's pumpin out a respectable 350hp+, then, also depending on how it was built, a 650, 700, or 750 will do the job just fine. The main factors are cam, compression, and intended use.

Unless you go with an advanced EFI system , the bigger the motor , the worse the mileage . 454 , 383 and MPG are 3 things that don't belong in the same sentence .
